Crisp Box Soundsystem

Client – Personal
Services – Concept development / Art direction / Installation design / Creative production

A functioning speaker sound system exploring the rituals and customs of Caribbean carnival in the UK, and the ways time and environment transform culture to create whole new actions and meanings.

The construction echoes the sculpture-like configurations as they are seen in off licences, as well as towering rigs. The installation is held together as sound systems traditionally are – with a ratchet strap which visibly secures the temporary setups, allowing for infinite reconfigurations and leaving space for expansion.

This work was exhibited in New Traditions: An Exhibition on Modern Folklore in the UK and Ireland at The Island, Bristol.
